5 Helpful Tips for Photographing People With Glasses

Glasses can be the bane of a photographer’s existence, ruining what would otherwise be a great shot with weird splashes of green patterns where your subject’s eyes should be. But once you know how to work with them, it is not too hard to make great images that include them, and this helpful video will give you five tips to help you on your way.

Coming to you from Tyler Stalman, this great video discusses five tips for shooting portraits when your subject is wearing glasses. A lot of advice says to simply tell your subject to remove their glasses, but I try to avoid this if possible. For a lot of people, glasses are a part of their identity, and they might not feel like an image is a complete representation of them without their frames. One tip from Stalman that I constantly have to remind myself of is to make sure the lenses are actually clean. Most people who wear them get acclimated to some level of grime and dust that they don’t notice, but those will definitely show up in a portrait and can be a pain to clean in post. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Stalman.
