Improve Your Black and White Edits in Lightroom With These Tips

Creating a good black and white image is about a lot more than simply pulling all the saturation out of a color photo. This fantastic video tutorial will give you a number of tips and techniques for improving the quality of your black and white images when working in Lightroom.

Coming to you from Anthony Morganti, this great video tutorial will show you how to improve your black and white edits using Lightroom. In addition to using the individual color sliders for taking more control of the tonality of the edit, I like to get a bit more aggressive with the texture, clarity, and dehaze tools. Whereas going too far with these sliders can make color images look crunchy and unrealistic, black and white pictures tend to tolerate higher settings, and it can give your photos a very dramatic look. And do not forget that you can also use Lightroom’s local adjustment tool to paint the light in the photo. Beyond dodging and burning, you can also add local contrast and more. The radial adjustment tool also works quite well for this task and is rather efficient. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Morganti.
