The Bokeh Machine: A Review of the XF 50mm f/1.0 R WR Lens

Fuji shooters who are also bokeh fanatics have a new top choice: the XF 50mm f/1.0 R WR. Does it offer sharpness and autofocus performance to match? This fantastic video review takes a look at the lens and the sort of performance you can expect in real-world usage.

Coming to you from Christopher Frost Photography, this great video review takes a look at the new XF 50mm f/1.0 R WR lens. Of course, the headline feature of the 50mm f/1.0 is that crazily wide maximum aperture, but along with that comes a number of useful features, including:

  • Dust- and moisture-resistant construction
  • DC autofocus motor for fast autofocus performance when moving the larger elements
  • Rounded nine-blade diaphragm for smoother bokeh
  • One aspherical element for less distortion and better sharpness
  • Two extra-low dispersion elements for less chromatic aberrations and better clarity
  • Super EBC coating for less flares and ghosting and better contrast

Certainly, the XF 50mm f/1.0 R might be overkill for a lot of shooters, but if you are a bokeh fanatic or looking for a superlative portraits lens for the Fuji X System, it could be a great choice. Check out the video above for Frost’s full thoughts on the lens.
